Automobile Crash Reconstruction

Posted on 16th August 2012 by RadiateWP in Auto Accident, Blog

Automobile Rollover CrashAutomobile crashes are an everyday occurrence. A typical crash involves minor damages, but on occasion the parties and/or witnesses will disagree as to how the crash occurred. Sometimes there will be no independent witnesses, and that is where crash reconstruction comes into play. Automobile crash reconstruction involves a thorough inspection of the roadway, vehicles involved, and witness statements. Simon Law Group consults with expert reconstructionists who have law enforcement backgrounds, including local and state law enforcement agencies. The crash reconstructionist hired by Simon Law Group will survey skid marks, gouges, and impact damage. They will also download the data recorders inside the vehicle that store all sorts of details, such as air bag modules that may be able to reveal the speed a vehicle was traveling, throttle position, seatbelt usage, and roll rate. These details provide pieces to the puzzle that may help complete the picture of the events leading up to the crash. Many of our crash reconstructionists will do work with high tech computer software combined with mathematical analysis involving physics and algebra. The measurement of skid marks, vehicle positioning, and road conditions is combined to complete a diagram which, along with mathematical formulas, allows the crash reconstructionist to determine speed, changes in velocity (deltaV), angles of impact, and more. Crash reconstructionists retained by Simon Law Group typically will go to the scene of the crash, review police reports, witness statements, crash scene photographs, and the vehicles to get a comprehensive understanding of the facts of the crash. If a case proceeds to trial, more often than not, the parties disagree on what happened and then it becomes a battle of the experts. Crash reconstruction experts used to testify by Simon Law Group help convince a jury as to our client’s version of the crash.
