A DUI Bill signed by Governor Jan Brewer on April 29, 2011, eliminated the right to a jury trial for Defendants charged with first time non-extreme DUI. The law does not take effect until December 31, 2011. Backers recently dropped a proposed referendum to block this new law due to a failure to collect the required 86,405 voter signatures needed to suspend implementation of the new law.
